The focus of Lecture Six is on the Governance of Chinese Muslims (focusing on Hui and Uyghur Muslims).
During the lecture we will discuss the position of Muslims and Islam in China. In addition to some 10 million Muslim Uyghurs, China counts approximately 10 million Hui Muslims who are not located in one particular region, but are spread around the country.
We will discuss the official Chinese policy that requires religions to be ‘sinicised’ and how this works out for Islam. We will also discuss the terrorism issue and the effects it has on the position of Muslims in China.
